Flume water3/29/2024 ![]() They have intelligence to alert you to unusual water usage. Unlike leak sensors you place under likely places a leak might occur like near a toilet or under a sink that alarm when water is detected, these all attach to the main water supply for your house allowing them to measure the water flow for your entire house. I narrowed my list down to the Flume 2, Moen Flo, and Streamlabs. Top 3 Best Smart Water Leak Detectors in 2021 At the end of the article, you can also use my Flume referral code for $20 off a Flume2. In my research I found several promising ones which I'll go over in the remainder of this article, why I ultimately chose the Flume 2, and my experience with it in the 3 months since.Īs I go through these I want to mention that as an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases made through links on this site which helps support it, but doesn't add any cost to your purchase. This left me paranoid and for peace of mind I started researching to see if there were any whole-house smart wifi water monitors or leak detectors I could install. It left a pretty expensive mess to deal with and, due to the nature of it, was difficult to locate, since it seemed to trigger seemingly randomly, even with the help of leak detection experts. Last year I discovered, the hard way, an intermittent leak in a pipe run under the foundation was emitting through my bathroom wall. I believe I recalibrated it as well after doing that.1 Why I added a smart water meter to my smart home When I went back to the meter, cleaned it off, and took a good photo and had them update it, usage became much much more accurate. The reason was that I wasn't able to send them a proper photo. The Flume at my mom's house was like this - super overstating usage. I'm kinda curious to check now too, since I recalibrated my flumes earlier this year (and had to get one replaced due to a battery drain issue).Įdit: I just remembered this is 1000% likely a water meter photo issue. ![]() If you like, reply here next week or something and remind me and I can try and confirm. It always seemed weird to me that I would wake up each morning, look at my Flume to see 0 usage overnight, but then find my dishwasher with a decent amount of water in the pan.įlume customer service was friendly but not particularly insightful, IMO. Note that my dishwasher is connected to the hot water tap, but I have a tankless water heater, so I would think the leak should be recorded pretty soon at the water meter site where the Flume was installed. It was a slow leak, but significant over time nonetheless. The dishwasher solenoid started to fail last year, and the dishwasher would slowly fill with water as a result, to the point that it would eventually drip onto the floor. What it totally failed to do, as far as I can tell, is detect the water leak caused by a faulty solenoid valve in my dishwasher, which I just had repaired. In general I could trust it tell me if something was on / gushing / etc in my home. As far as I could tell, the unit seemed calibrated correctly, and was relatively new (it's a replacement Flume for the one that that was failing, and was installed earlier this year). Hey folks, I'm trying to understand why my Flume water meter didn't really do the thing it's specifically supposed to do, which is detect a leak in my home.
